"Oh, yea right." He said diving down and catching the mouse, then hurrying back up. Flame held the mouse in his long curving talons and offered it to her. "Here, you can have it.I am not that hungry anymore." He said looking down at the ground. Flame caught the hint that she wasn't interested, so he kept his wings down and every once in a while he would ruffle his feathers and look at her with a smile. "Sorry, I really am." He said turning his head to look at her.

Aniya stared at the falcon. "Are you kidding? I don't eat mice!" Aniya ruffled her feathers indignantly. (Going to bed... )

"I'm going back to my nest," Aniya announced. She had decided that Flame wasn't worth her time. She took flight, ignoring any of his attempts to stop her or follow her. She landed back at where her platform used to rest. "Guano," she cursed as she remembered the destruction of her attempt at a nest. (Can post til 11)

Flame went home feeling like the stupidest bird ever. He was usually very smart, but not tonight! When he got back to the nest he saw his mom and dad laying in two separate nests and his brothers with his mother. He laid by his dad and fell asleep. He tried not to think of Aniya or the fact that he blew it. "Why did I do that! She could have liked me!" He said to himself.

Aniya flew away from the previous site of her now destroyed nest. She searched the Heart for a hollow or a vacant nest. Every bed was occupied. She noticed that same falcon rest in a nest among his family. Finally she perched on a branch and tried to roost there but the absence of a nest made it nearly impossible to sleep.

Flame opened his eyes and looked around. He quickly noticed the female bird he had met before. He flew over to her " Are you OK? Do you not have a nest?" He asked her in a concerned voice.

Aniya studied the scene of Flame's family. It seemed happy, usual for families to continue to nest together after the chicks had grown, but happy. Aniya felt herself missing her own family. Then the red falcon raised his head and immediately noticed her. He flew over. "I had one..." Aniya answered his question trailing off as a note of bitterness entered her voice.

(How it's ok, but I'm joining!) thorn flew above the trees, the wind knocking her about. Her ebony eyes were narrowed to the wind. Growing tired, the predatory songbird dove into the trees. He spotted several birds and ignored them all.

Another bird whistled past Aniya and Flame. Aniya watched it speed past. The night seemed nearly over. The sky was slowly graying and Aniya hadn't gotten a wink of sleep. She sighed her tiredness weighing on her wings. Maybe she could just get a little sleep. Aniya tucked her head under her wing and tried to block out the world that was beginning to awake. What a great night, Aniya thought to herself bitterly. Her nest was a disaster, some falcon had flirted with her, which she didn't like, and she hadn't gotten any sleep.

Flame decided that he was going to do something nice for Aniya, while she was sleeping Flame fixed her nest and made it better for her. Then he sat there for a moment and thought about her. He looked out at the sunrise for a few minutes then started off for home. Flame was dad that Aniya didn't like him. When he got back to his nest his parents kicked him out and told him he needed to find a female falcon and settle down. He didn't want to, but he had no choice.

Thorn swooped back up with a flutter of her wings. She had a fat snake in her small beak, for her songbird talons were useless. The ashy brown bird settled nearby a fiery orange bird. With one swift movement she impaled her prey on a protruding thorn. Using all her strength and beating wings Thorn pulled the branches into a rough circle. With swift plucks she pushed off thorns from the vine like branches.

"Hello" Flame said to the bird that sat next to him.

Aniya shook herself awake. It wasn't long after dawn. The songs of the morning rung through the Heart. Aniya immediately noticed the nest. That rested on the branch beside her. It hadn't been there before when she had fallen asleep, had it? Before Aniya could further inspect it. A brown songbird flew over and impaled the snake it held on a thorn. Aniya stared in shock. What kind of songbird killed snakes for no reason? Then Aniya noticed the bird's sharp beak. This wasn't a song bird this was a bird of prey!

The shrike eyed the larger bird warily. Thorn peeled off a strip of snake meat off and gobbled it up hungrily. Most birds would be disgusted by a small songbird eating meat, and let alone IMPALING her prey.
