Making a Ripple (open)

Kyra hopped along a branch that hung out over the Kane a ways. He tough stick was positively covered in hanging moss that dribbled like an emerald waterfall into the water. Nearer to the muddy shore, the surface was blocked out by green duckweed floating over top. The edges were wetlands.

The small, yet bright king fisher narrowed her eyes against the glare from the sun on the still water, searching for the dark shadows of fish.

Arav glided carelessly through the trees and decided to land on a dead log near the lake, as he looked around worried about the presence of any predator, after a moment, Aravind noticed some strange shadows in the water *Are those...fish?* he thought to himself before noticing the oddly colored bird searching for something in the water "Oh, hi... are you looking for something? Maybe I could help." he tweeted curiously.

Kyra was startled when a birds voice emanated fom behind her, causing her to hop up in surprise. Her feathers puffed out around her, standing on end, Making her look like a blue and orange puff. Quickly, the kingfisher smoothed her feathers down and gave the blue bird a glare. "Can't you see I'm hunting?!" She said snappish lay and rolled her dark eyes before turning her head back to the water.

Kyra was in her hunting mode. Her shut-up-and-don't-bother-me mode. There! Kyra spotted the silhouette of a fish, just the right size. She quickly shot into the air in a fierce blur and fell like a bullet into the water. As quickly as she entered the water she exited, a good sized minnow in her beak. Now, hunting mode was disabled.

"I'm really sorry,but...I couldn't help but notice that you are really fast." Arav chirped slightly shy, Aravind observed the other bird's prey and asked trying to start a conversation "What kind of fish is that?I've never seen it.".He settled in the dead log and poked his wings trying to get something out. "Oh, sorry for my rudeness, my name is Aravind, but you can call me Tiny if you want." Ar tweeted in a cheerful tone.

"No, no, the fault is mine! I was I what i call my 'hunting mode' I get snappy when I'm in it." She hopped from claw to claw, nervously. Then st the mention if what fish it was, she puffed out her chest proudly. "A snub nosed minnow!" Kyra's reddish orange chest flared proudly. At the mention if his name she blushed, she too had not mentioned her own. She was feeling very rude today. "That's a nice name, Tiny. I'm Kyra, feel free to call my Ky!"

"Hunting mode? How does that work?" Tiny asked curious, still a bit confused about the fish Ar tweeted "I've heard of fish before, but I've never seen them,how do they taste like Ky?". Aravind groomed his tail for a moment , removing some dirt, and quickly flapped his wings ,landing in a fairly large tree. "I'm sorry if that sounds rude but... What kind of bird are you? Hehe, I must admit, you look like a butterfly...I mean your colors and feathers" Arav tweeted in curious yet happy tone.

Kyra chirruped at his quick speech. "Im a King Fisher! And, we all have this coloration, I'm not that unique." She tweeted modestly. At the mention if never tasting a fish before she was astonished! But then she remembered that other birds were not as good as fishers and probably never caught one. "It's good! Would you want to taste one?" she would tell him about her hunting mode later.

"Well, I've never seen any bird like you...so that makes you unique to me at least, Well, it's not like I know a lot of birds anyway... back to the point, I've never eaten fish before, I've always eaten bugs, especially butterflies and fireflies, have you ever eaten a blue butterfly? They taste great!" Aravind tweeted as he noticed a small white butterfly with brownish spots "Here I'll get you one." Ar chirped as he swiftly dived from the tree using the opportunity to show off some tight mid-air turns and some acrobatics, Aravind catches the small winged bug and lands on a branch near Kyra chirping gently "Well, it's not blue but, would you like to try it?

Kyra listened, hopping enthusiastically, waiting for him to fall victim to the love of fish. As he talked about butterflies she supposed she could taste one. How bad could they be. The king fisher flapped a little ways into another branch, dragging her fish with her. As the blue songbird arrived with a white winged creature she inspected it. Yep! It was indeed a butterfly! The blue backed female bird leaned forwards and snatched it daintily away from him, her beak brushing his slightly. She let it all the way into her mouth and her eyes bulged. From his pint if view he might think she was in awe at its flavor but really she was thinking: ACK! GROSS! He eats this stuff? Just. Swallow. It. Don't be rude. GROSS!" Kyra swallowed the insect down and smiled weakly. "It's not fish." She clicked her beak nervously.

Ar slightly blushed as he felt Ky's beak poke his, but soon noticed her Im-grossed-out-but-not-saying-it face "So you don't like it? no problem. Fish tastes kind of weird too." Aravind chuckled. "Were are you from? Or, were do you want to go?" Ar asked curious, Aravind's feathers puffed as he tweeted with a hint of fear "I almost forgot, have you seen flock of birds?They look like me but, with slightly smaller wings. Have you seen them around?"

Kyra was greatful that he understood what she was feeling. At last the taste was gone. The she-bird sighed in relief. "I have not seen a flock if birds actually, only a gaggle of geese." She shot nervous glances at him. Had he lost his family? Or was he running away? She would ask later. Later? Would there even be a later? Would he even stay near him? For some reason her heart sped up. Why? Maybe she had been alone too long...."I've never really thought about where I want to go....maybe I could come with you on your travels?"

"Oh, I see, I forgot to explain, I was migrating with my family but, I got lost in the mist and I'm basically lost here" Aravind tried to light the mood a little by changing the subject, he knew someday he would have to fly away from the nest, Ar was just surprised by how fast it all happened, "Hey, what about that hunting mode you had? You haven't told me about it yet. I've been gliding around this isle for a while and I noticed some really weird places, I really wanted to explore it, but I was kind of afraid and decided stop by this lake to eat some bugs and I met you!" Aravind tweeted in a cheer-up-ish tone.

Kyra nodded slowly beginning to understand, before fluttering her wings slightly and putting that matter to the back of her mind. "Ih, of course." The bird began, taking a moment to find the right words. "My hunting mode....well....When ever I hunt I get very focused and in depth with it. It's just me and the fish, the only thing keeping me from getting it is the water. So I lean in close and glare at the water until I spot one. Then I pounce as you just witnessed moments ago.but if I get interrupted, well, I snap at you." Ky says matter-of-factly, with a nonchalant lilt to her plain, yet musical voice.

"Oooh, so it's like a super power then...cool!" Ar tweeted astonished "That's awesome!" Aravind fluttered his tail excitedly "C-can you teach me?I want to be a big hunter like you!" He chirped in a childish tone.

Kyra had no idea how she would teach this bug-eating bird how to hunt properly. She closed her eyes thoughtfully, ever-moving talons still at last. She was deciding. She liked this bird. He was curious. But. It depended in what he wanted to hunt. Fish? She could do it. Land crawling bugs? Sure. Flying bugs? Uh....maybe? "Well,Tiny. I guess it depends in what you want to hunt!"
