( Shrike) Mia flew through the branches of aspen trees often doubling back when she got to far ahead. She looked down to see her friend Guin wobbling along. "Welcome to Aspen Grove!" She called. It was a beautiful and sad place. But also one of fond memories of family and friends.

"Yes, it's quite beautiful. I have never seen such trees." Guin whispered in awe, this place seemed so peaceful, he didn't want to disrupt it.

Mia flared her blue feathers and alighted on a small sapling. She loved the delicate serenity of the grove. "How do you like it?" She asked quietly.

"It's peaceful, the quaking filling the wind with golden noise. The grass whispers secrets, though unintelligible. The white bark is stark against the blue sky, the trunks mingle to make maze of beauty." Guin the poetic penguin said.

Mia sighed contentedly at his answer. "Good enough for me." She landed beside him and decided to walk. Or hop, since she wasn't very good at walking. Her icy blue eyes took in several gravesites decorated by caring families.

"Graves," Guin said. "On the beach we set them afloat on an elephant leaf with flowers. I suppose burying them is another way as well.

Mia's gazed drifted from Guin down to her gray feet. There was one grave here that she knew of. She instantly turned her head towards it. A small bundle of white Queen Anne's Lace lays in front of it. She hopped over to it and picked up the flowers in her beak before placing them back on top of the rocks marking the grave. The wind having blown them off.

Guin waddled solemnly behind her. He noticed a lavender wild flower and plucked it from the grass and laid it next to hers. After a moment if silence, listening to the shhhhhhh of the aspens, he whispered. "Who was it?"

Mia smiled lightly at his respectful addition to the grave. After the wind blew the trees causing the leaves to make a loud sssshhhhhh noise Mia looked up. "My brother, Cordell." A dark blue jay leapt about in Mia's mind calling for her to join him the the sky. Cordell and Mirajane the dynamic duo...until the fall. "Peace is hard to truly come by on the island." Mia turned and hopped away from the pile of stones. Tears brimmed in her eyes but she was not about to cry in front of Guin. Her blue feathers stood out starkly on the leaf mold under foot.

Guin nodded solemnly, he knew what it was like to lose a family member. He extended a flipper and hung it over his friend, careful not to squish her.

Mia supported his flipper with a grunt. "Oh don't get all sentimental on me!" She pushed off his flipper. Smiling up at him she wrapped her tiny wings around his waist in a hug. "Lets keep walking."

Guin smiled a small smile and did as she wished, he walked on. His webbed feet were clumsy in the clumps if grass, and painful on pebbles and thorns. If he had teeth, he would've clamped them together. They passed at least half a dozen more graves before they came upon a large one. It looked to be adorned with jewels and assorted wildflowers. It seemed like someone very important was buried here.

"Wow! Extra points for creativity!" Mia exclaimed trying to lighten the previous mood. "Who do you think it is?" The curious blue bird hopped closer and gazed at the jewel encrusted grave. Her icy eyes reflected the glints of the stones embedded in it and the softer tones of the flowers.

Guin shrugged and waddled closer, laying his flipper on the impressive tomb. "Royalty maybe? Some hero?" Guin didn't talk to many flyers, spheres wouldn't know about any royal nations or bands forming in or before his lifetime.

"Royalty?! Wow. I haven't heard that term in awhile." The grave certainly did seem fit for someone of a higher status. Off to the right she saw several turned graves. She nudged Guin and pointed with her beak. "Lets hope there are no restless spirits here." Mia murmured and recited a short prayer of peace. "Grave robbing is a disrespectful thing to do." She said disapprovingly.
