"Gross! What is this place! Yuck! The air is so heavy. I can't breathe!" Guin mimed sufficating and sink down into the ground. "Ugh!" He moaned and let his sharp tongue hang out pantomiming death.

Mia darted overhead. "Its the swamp." She chirped. Her feathers were getting laden with moisture and it was slowly forcing her down. "The tropics actually. Thick heavy air and boggy, sticky water." Mia landed on the upright part of a log. It felt soft and malleable under her claws. The bark crumbled away and floated on the soggy water.

"Gross. I haven't been this far away from the ocean. Do you want to keep going?" Guin asked sluding under a fallen tree, staining his white bellya greenish brown color.

"If you can handle it?" Mia asked taking to the skies again. There was not much relief from this sweltering atmosphere. She flew through a hanging patch of leaves spraying cool raindrops down on Guin below. The branch holding the leaves perked up some. The trees were laden with water.

"I'd waddle to the great oaks and back if I had to!" Guin sniffed indignantly. The Penguin tipped his head back to drink some fresh water.

"I'm sure you could. But this place is bad for quicksand." Mia brushed another limb. "Lets keep going. There are surely dryer places ahead."

"Dry," the penguin shuddered, "at least this place is wet." Guin grumbled but trekked on.

"Quit complaining and keep walking. Or waddling, whatever that is that you do." Mia grinned. She had cool air currents to keep her temperature down. Poor Guin had nothing. "Come on, the water doesn't look that bad?" It was pretty bad. Greenish in color and it had long tendrils of plant matter floating in it. "You never know. It maybe better than it looks. It certainly looks cooler." Mia leveled down and lowered one foot into the water. But upon closer inspection the water wasn't green at all, it was clear nearly to the muddy bottom.

"You're Ms. Optimistic today aren't you?" He chuckled. He waddled through another puddle, getting his feet filthy with grime. "I just hope there's no predators out there." Guin whispered more to himself than Mia as he stared out into the maze of roots, logs and hanging moss.

"Absolutely." Mia tipped her wingtips into the water. Causing clear smooth ripples to spread outwards. "Why don't you try the water? It's nicer than you think." She flew back and nudged her friend towards the edge of the path.

Guin sniffed indignantly. "Fine," he slipped a fin into the water, it was clear on the top, and grimy in the bottom. He splashed unit, stirring up the dirt, creating a brown haze. "No, look its still muddy." He laughed and flicked some at her. "That's for the sand."

Mia dodged the majority of the water but a streak darkened the feathers on her back. "Hey, watch it!" She exclaimed swooping down to fly above him. She stuck her little pink tongue out at him in defiance before giggling.

Guin sniggered and continued on, still keeping an eye out for predators.

"Feeling better now that your swimming?" Mia asked. She flew down and alighted on the part of his back she could see. She loved this spot. Close to the water but not so close that it was dangerous.

"I suppose." He shrugged and nudged past a herd of dusgusting, oily black leeches. "Though it is pretty nasty here."
